"European minerals: sustainable extraction for a prosperous Europe" - this was the theme of the Parliamentary Première on the European Minerals Day 2011 which took place in Brussels on 13 April. The event received the support of European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani, Commissioner in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship.
Highlighting the European minerals sector's contribution to Europe's sustainable, smart and inclusive growth, the event welcomed over 100 guests from the European institutions, Permanent Representations and Embassies as well as the minerals sector and NGOs. The successful event was hosted by Judith Merkies MEP, in the presence of Gwenole Cozigou, Director in DG Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission and MEP Herbert Reul a.o.(click for full report).

As support activities, a workshop dedicated to "Health and Safety in Maintenance in the Industrial Minerals Industry" will be organised in 2011 and, in the frame of the IMA dust monitoring programme, a special focus will put on improving exposure levels in the maintenance job function.
