REinEU 2016 – Slovak Presidency conference on the Reindustrialisation of Europe.

On 26-28 October, the Slovak Presidency of the Union hosted “Re-Industrialisation of the EU 2016”.
This prestigious event of the Slovak EU Council Presidency in the field of nanotechnologies, advanced materials and manufacturing technologies aimed to emphasize and discuss the role of science, research and innovation in sustainable development of the European economy and the re-industrialisation of Europe. The three-day event focused on the impact of research and innovation on the support and growth of production in the more "traditional" manufacturing sectors. It combined, exhibitions, match-making and numerous sessions with presentations and round-table discussions. IMA-Europe took part in the session “New value chain – innovative processes”. Didier Jans’ presentation (available upon request) highlighted the critical importance of Industrial minerals in numerous value chains and put the light on several innovative examples drawn from the IMA-Europe Awards. Concluding policy recommendations emphasized the important of innovation as a support to the existing economic tissue, not only the 4.0 economy, and the adverse effect that some “side legislation” like classification have on reindustrialisation objectives. The conference ended with a political statement “The Bratislava Agenda”, calling for an industrial revolution to reindustrialize Europe. Conference website:
